Evidence of Ethnic Cleansing Intentions by Azerbaijan Presented at The Hague Court
Armenia has presented numerous pieces of evidence at the International Court of Justice regarding Azerbaijan's intentions for ethnic cleansing, as well as the torture and humiliation of Armenian prisoners of war.
The court was informed that Azerbaijan has violated international humanitarian law and the trilateral statement of November 9, which mandated the return of all prisoners of war and detained persons, yet continues to hold prisoners of war and civilians. The report highlighted both unconfirmed and 45 confirmed prisoners of war.
"The fact that Azerbaijan has detained these 45 individuals is indisputable," the presenter stated, adding that their names and other information are detailed in documents, identifying them as real people with names, faces, and families.
The presenter reminded the court that Azerbaijani special forces had captured Armenian soldiers even in December near the villages of Hin Tagher and Khzaverd. It was emphasized that these two villages and the surrounding area were not included in the territories from which Armenian troops were to withdraw according to the trilateral statement.
The speaker pointed out that there is evidence showing that both the confirmed 45 prisoners and a large portion of other detainees have been subjected to torture and degrading treatment by Azerbaijan. Numerous publications indicate that prisoners of war and civilians have been burned and electrocuted.
Thus, multiple pieces of factual evidence, including videos shared by Azerbaijani soldiers on social media, were presented to the court. The court was shown videos documenting murders and brutal treatment.
It was emphasized that unfortunately, humiliations continue even today. "You may hear today that all these prisoners of war are criminals and that their detention has nothing to do with ethnic cleansing, while all evidence points to ethnic cleansing," it was noted in court.
