Shushi Fell Due to Lack of Commanders and Organized Forces, Says Mayor

“Shushi fell because there were no commanders, there was no regular army, and the defense was disorganized,” said Shushi Mayor Artsvik Sargsyan during the 24TV program “Interview.”

The mayor is convinced that Shushi was not a gloomy and unfortunate place; it was a joyful and beautiful city that had become a construction site in recent years. According to Sargsyan, they could never have anticipated that the city would one day find itself under Azerbaijani control.

Artsvik Sargsyan believes that if there had been a little more organization and troops, the city could have been defended. “I saw many boys coming from Armenia, but they had no commanders… We had numbers, but everything was disorganized. The responsibility should start from Hadrut. How did Hadrut fall, how were the villages captured? It’s true that the Azerbaijanis used very modern weapons, and their numbers were significant, while ours did not have adequate equipment. I say there should have been an army to stand and defend. There should have been soldiers, and next to them, the volunteer forces. From what I observed, there were soldiers, but there were no commanders…”, Sargsyan stated.
