Iran's Chief Prosecutor to Visit Armenia at the Invitation of Arthur Davtyan
On October 12, Iran’s Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Jafar Montazeri will visit the Republic of Armenia for a three-day trip. This was announced by the Office of the Prosecutor General of Armenia.
The working visit occurs at the invitation of Armenia's Chief Prosecutor Arthur Davtyan, reflecting mutual interest in further enhancing the successful cooperation between the Prosecutor’s Offices of Armenia and the Islamic Republic of Iran.
During the visit, extended negotiations are planned between the Chief Prosecutors of the two countries, during which issues related to strengthening the ties between their respective agencies will be discussed. Topics will include the execution of requests for legal assistance in criminal cases, the consolidation of efforts by law enforcement agencies of both countries in combating trans-regional and global crimes, and the protection of citizens' rights in each other's countries.
Several other high-level meetings are also planned.
This marks the first visit to Armenia by the Chief Prosecutor of the Islamic Republic of Iran since 2013, following a visit to Tehran by the Armenian Chief Prosecutor at the invitation of Montazeri in November 2018. During that visit, a cooperation program was signed between the Prosecutor's Offices of the two countries, and joint activities under that program continue.
The international legal cooperation between the two countries' Prosecutor’s Offices is implemented based on agreements signed on July 5, 2006, regarding extradition and cooperation on criminal and civil matters, as well as memoranda of understanding and programs signed in previous years.
