Turkey Calls on the US to Abandon Flawed Policy
The Turkish government has condemned the extension of sanctions by the United States, which were imposed against Turkey in 2019 due to its actions in Syria. According to Armenpress, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu stated that the Biden administration is misleading Congress.
The sanctions were enacted in response to the incursion of Turkish forces into Syria and actions against the Kurdish population. At that time, the Turkish ministries of defense and energy, as well as key officials including Defense Minister Hulusi Akar, Energy Minister Fatih Dönmez, and Suleyman Soylu, the deputy of the ruling Justice and Development Party, were affected by the sanctions.
“Instead of blaming Turkey, the US should abandon its own flawed policy. The American leadership should be honest with its people and Congress,” Çavuşoğlu said.
