Seiran Ohanyan on the Possibility of War in the Region
Former Armenian Defense Minister and leader of the "Armenia" faction, Seiran Ohanyan, stated during a press briefing that Armenia must develop appropriate relations with Iran, not only politically and security-wise, but also in terms of economic relations.
“Especially in Syunik, regarding cargo transportation,” he said.
Ohanyan explained that the current government links the border situation, particularly the geographical conditions, to the law on “Administrative Territorial Division,” which he deemed unacceptable. “This law is for internal consumption; even if this law exists, after the war was halted on November 9, we had no right to hand over to Azerbaijan all the strategic points that are disputed between us and Azerbaijan in those areas,” he stated.
The deputy noted that it will be very difficult to push Azerbaijan back once the delimitation takes place. Ohanyan emphasized that the threat of war is always present, but in the current situation, combat operations are not anticipated in the immediate future. “I don’t think a war will happen right now,” he stated.
