David Tonoyan's Arrest Decision Challenged

The decision to arrest former Armenian Minister of Defense David Tonoyan as a preventive measure has been appealed. This was reported by attorney Sergey Hovhannisyan in an interview with 'Faktinfo,' adding that the appeal has not yet been registered.

As previously reported, David Tonoyan is accused of embezzling 2,277,323,840 AMD and committing fraudulent acts that pose a public danger. The prosecuting body submitted a motion to the court to select arrest as a preventive measure, which was granted by Judge Mnatsakan Martirosyan.

Following the announcement of the arrest decision, David Tonoyan was transferred to the 'Yerevan-Center' Penitentiary, where he is currently held. In the appeal, the defense is contesting both the presence of reasonable suspicion, arguing that there is a complete lack of evidence for the charges, and the grounds for arrest. It should be noted that the first-instance court only established the likelihood of hindering the investigation as the basis for the arrest.

It is worth reminding that former Minister of Defense David Tonoyan and businessman David Galstyan, also known as Patron Davo, involved in arms supply, were arrested in connection with a criminal case being investigated by the National Security Service, and their arrest motions were granted by the court.
