Arman Tatoyan Presents Information on Armenian Prisoners Held in Azerbaijan to the Pope

The Human Rights Defender of Armenia, Arman Tatoyan, has presented information regarding the "tortures by Azerbaijan against Armenian prisoners and violations against the border population" to the Pope of Rome, as reported by the Defender's office.

During a brief conversation with the Pope, who is on a state visit to Italy, Tatoyan mentioned that some Armenian prisoners are being held illegally in Azerbaijan under threat of death, and he handed over reports concerning them to the leader of the Catholic Church.

Yesterday, His Holiness Karekin II, the Catholicos of All Armenians, also met with Pope Francis, addressing the issue of the return of Armenian prisoners once again.

It is noteworthy that since the end of the war, Azerbaijan has returned 109 prisoners of war, including military personnel and civilians. According to unofficial data from the Armenian side, there are currently several dozen Armenian prisoners being held in Azerbaijani prisons.
