The Position of Deputy Director of the NSS Remains Vacant as No Candidate is Found
The newspaper 'Joghavor' reports that nearly two months have passed since the dismissal of NSS Deputy Director Stepan Melkonyan, but a new appointee has yet to be named.
As previously reported by 'Joghavor', after resigning from the position on August 14, Stepan Melkonyan was expected to be replaced by former head of the Artsakh NSS, Kamo Aghajanyan. However, a month and a half later, the position of Deputy Director of the NSS remains vacant.
The delay in Aghajanyan's appointment is attributed, according to 'Joghavor', to the authorities' failure to find a suitable candidate, and there is also a lack of consensus between the Armenian authorities and the NSS regarding Aghajanyan's appointment. Thus, it appears that while Stepan Melkonyan was relieved of his duties on August 14, no replacement has been appointed as of now.
It is worth noting that the authorities often face a shortage of candidates as they adhere to the principle of rejecting former officials, and the NSS is not an arbitrary structure; a serious decision must be made prior to any appointment. Perhaps this is the reason why the appointment is delayed.
