The Flag of Armenia Flies Over the Quirinal Palace in Rome

The national flag of the Republic of Armenia has been raised over the Quirinal Palace in Rome. This event is connected to the state visit of Armenian President Armen Sarkissian. According to NEWS.am, the official welcoming ceremony for the Armenian president took place today, October 6, at the Italian presidential residence, the Quirinal Palace.

It was reported that the Italian President Sergio Mattarella welcomed him. The national anthems of Armenia and Italy were performed, after which the national flag of Armenia was raised at the Quirinal Palace.

Following the official part of the ceremony, a private conversation between the two presidents commenced, which will be followed by a meeting of delegations in an expanded format. The presidents of Armenia and Italy will make statements to the press.

This marks the first time in 30 years that an Armenian president is making a state visit to Italy. Meetings are scheduled with Senate President Maria Elisabetta Casellati, Chamber of Deputies President Roberto Fico, and the Mayor of Rome Virginia Raggi.
