«I am in Mataghis, and if Serjik has the courage, let him come here»: Aliyev to Serzh Sargsyan

The President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, addressed Serzh Sargsyan during his visit to the occupied village of Mataghis on October 3. He stated, "I am in Sugovushan (Mataghis), and if Serjik has the courage, let him come here." Azerbaijani news outlets reported this.

According to Aliyev, the third president of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan, and those like him are the losing side in the war, and he believes Sargsyan is now trying to blame Prime Minister Pashinyan for that defeat. The Azerbaijani leader also recalled that the former Armenian president was among the cowards.

"The former president of Armenia, Serjik Sargsyan, is also on the list of cowards... When he saw that the Azerbaijani army was already approaching Khankendi (Stepanakert) and could take him by the ear and bring him to Baku, he fled like a coward, resembling a deserter. I call him Serjik not to humiliate him, but because our archives contain information that his birth certificate and Komsomol membership card list him as Serjik Sargsyan. He later changed his name to Serzh, as if it were an acceptable name," Aliyev said.
