Pashinyan Discusses Shushi

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan insists that no residential buildings have been constructed in Shushi over the past 30 years. Pashinyan made this statement during a Q&A session with the government in the National Assembly, responding to a question from Tigran Abrahamyan, a member of the "Honorary Membership" faction.

Notably, during a meeting with representatives of the Armenian community in Lithuania, Pashinyan raised the question of how many residential buildings have been built in Shushi over these 30 years and why no one asks why they have not been constructed, questioning the logic behind it.

Today, Abrahamyan inquired if Pashinyan had been to Shushi after the first Nagorno-Karabakh war and noticed all the buildings—museums, universities, private houses, kindergartens....

"This is about residential houses. I have naturally seen what I needed to see, and my statements cannot be put under any doubt. I have nothing to add to that statement. I continue to make the same statement—what is not understandable here?" said Pashinyan.

According to him, if we take the list of constructions done in Shushi, it might not even fill a page, questioning the extent of the development. "If that's the case, then look at the volume of investments made in Shushi and Baden-Baden, and let’s see if those investments have any comparison. What are you pursuing with these questions, do you think it’s just me and you who have been in Shushi? People have not been in Shushi and other areas, and haven’t seen what the situation is," Pashinyan remarked.

The Prime Minister concluded his remarks, stating that it seems they are living in parallel realities.

It is worth reminding that on November 16, 2020, during a meeting in the National Assembly, Nikol Pashinyan specifically mentioned: "If Shushi was sold, it was sold in the last 30 years, because Shushi was a sad, colorless city. Did we need Shushi? If it was needed, why was it in such a situation?" This ignited a wave of discussions and criticisms.
