Danibekyan Rejects Alen Simonian's Request for Armen Gevorgyan
The Speaker of the National Assembly, Alen Simonian, has made every effort to allow the MP from the 'Armenia' alliance, Armen Gevorgyan, to travel to Strasbourg from September 25 to October 1 as part of the Armenian delegation in order to participate in the upcoming session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. However, the court has prohibited the MP from leaving Armenia.
It is known that Armen Gevorgyan is involved in a criminal case, and the court has imposed a restriction requiring him to refrain from leaving the country. We have addressed the issue that opposition members are deprived of participation in missions. Before the session of the PACE, the Speaker prepared a special letter and requested the court to permit Gevorgyan's departure, but Judge Anna Danibekyan rejected the request.
Hayk Mamikonyan, acting out of inter-party solidarity, also declined the mission. It is clear that the judge did not make this decision independently. It remains to be determined why the individual who instructed her did not prevent the Speaker's request for a plea, and why the judge has been placed in such a difficult position.
