Before addressing the issues of demarcation and delimitation, we must consider the arrangement of the border, says former NSS official
The newspaper "Zhoghovurd" reports. Before engaging in the issues of demarcation and delimitation, we should think about the layout of the borders and the border itself: Former commander of the NSS border troops, Armen Abrahamyan, expressed this belief in an interview with "Zhoghovurd".
"Since the 44-day war, the border of Armenia has increased by 200 km, which implies the need for border arrangement, preparation of landmarks, and so on. Winter is coming soon, and the state should consider conducting relevant work, fortifying the border, and constructing facilities for soldiers and equipment, so that the enemy does not invade or settle in our territories. The processes of delimitation and demarcation will be a task for tomorrow," he says.
Abrahamyan, a former NSS official, is confident that immediately after the completion of delimitation and demarcation activities, the Azerbaijani armed forces will not withdraw from Armenia. "An important factor for delimitation and demarcation is which maps published in which year will be followed. If they want the process to proceed quickly and be completed, one side will have to make concessions. If the demarcation and delimitation with Georgia, with which Armenia has no issues, has been going on for over 20 years, then it will take at least 50 years with Azerbaijan. I do not believe that it is possible to carry out this process in the current relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan," he elaborates.
The Major General also emphasizes that the military should not be involved in the delimitation and demarcation work; this is the responsibility of the diplomatic corps and the Geodesy Institute.
