Armenia Provided the First Turkish Corridor, Says Varoujan Geghamyan
Turkologist Varoujan Geghamyan wrote on his Facebook page: “ARMENIA PROVIDED THE FIRST TURKISH CORRIDOR.
This morning, based on preliminary data, it became clear that Azerbaijan conducted an internal flight to Nakhchivan, passing through the territory of the Republic of Armenia. This was, in fact, the first component of the Azerbaijan-Nakhchivan-Turkey (‘Turkish’) corridor – an air corridor that Azerbaijan could only dream of if it weren’t for the capitulator.
Let me explain the importance of all this again. From the very first moment of the Azerbaijani state’s creation (and even when the idea of creating a Turkic state in the Caucasus was still in the minds of Ottoman politicians and intellectuals or on paper), the task was set to establish a direct connection between the Ottoman Empire (then Turkey) and the Azerbaijani state. To achieve this, there was only one geographically and geopolitically feasible option: to conquer the Armenian territories of Nakhchivan, Syunik, and Artsakh and create a direct connection with Baku. During the years 1918-1921, this was only partially realized as Nakhchivan and Artsakh passed to Azerbaijan, while Syunik remained Armenian, and the connection was not established.
After gaining independence, we managed not only to defend Syunik but also to reclaim Artsakh, thereby doubly excluding the possibility of a corridor and increasing our geopolitical weight. Nowadays, if this so-called ‘Corridor’ issue is resolved, not only will Turkey become a Eurasian superpower, but Azerbaijan will also solve its main problems: fully absorbing Nakhchivan and creeping territorial gains in Armenian Syunik and Artsakh from both sides.
The capitulatory regime operating in Armenia in 2020, in order to maintain its own power, agreed to fulfill the main demand of Turkey and Azerbaijan and provide a connection between the two through its own territory. This morning, the air segment of the corridor was officially provided.
Such incidents fully prove that a de facto pro-Turkish authority is currently functioning in the Republic of Armenia. If the actions of the capitulator are not halted through the cooperation of national forces and external partners, then after the air corridor, it will be the turn of the land corridor.”
