Armenia and Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministers Agree to Meet Again
The foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan have reached an agreement to meet again under the auspices of the OSCE Minsk Group, Ararat Mirzoyan announced in parliament.
In response to a question regarding his meeting with Jeyhun Bayramov in New York, he positively assessed the resumption of the process. “Of course, the resumption of discussions in this format is undoubtedly welcome and aligned with the interests of the Republic of Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh. We once again affirm that the issue is unresolved. Azerbaijan likes to claim that the problem no longer exists; I believe this is yet another confirmation to the international community that the problem exists and requires a solution,” stated Mirzoyan.
According to him, this also proves that the search for a resolution must occur within the format of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairmanship.
“I consider it positive that there was an understanding that, due to the tension and the numerous unresolved and emerging issues, we have reached an agreement to meet again and prioritize humanitarian issues. Of course, this primarily concerns the issue of Armenian prisoners of war and civilians held illegally in Azerbaijan, as well as the question of the prisoners we expect and have presented,” said the head of the foreign affairs ministry.
About two weeks ago, the meeting of the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan took place in New York within the framework of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly, representing the first meeting since the 44-day war.
Azerbaijan’s position on the Nagorno-Karabakh issue has remained nearly unchanged since the cessation of hostilities, with Aliyev repeatedly asserting that “the Nagorno-Karabakh issue has been resolved.”
