Aliyev Makes New Statement
Azerbaijan is ready to begin negotiations for the normalization of relations with Armenia and considers the active participation of the European Union in this process as possible. This was stated by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev while receiving the credentials of the new EU ambassador to Azerbaijan, Peter Michalko, as reported by haqqin.az.
“The main issue now is the post-war period and ensuring peace in the region. We want to turn this page, this is our policy. We want to establish relations with Armenia, our neighbor. We are ready to start negotiations with Armenia regarding the signing of a peace treaty, conducting demarcation, and opening communications. This process has partially begun,” said Ilham Aliyev.
The President of Azerbaijan noted that the EU could also play an active role in this process, “especially as I see such a desire, it will help us in many areas.” According to Aliyev, there is a significant volume of work to be done in this direction.
