They Are Not 'Getting Rid' of Hayk Marutyan Yet: 'Zhoghovurd'
The newspaper 'Zhoghovurd' reports that the authorities have realized in internal discussions that holding early elections for the Yerevan City Council at this time could backfire against them. Sources close to the government indicate that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has come to the understanding that his administration is unlikely to secure an absolute majority in the Yerevan City Council elections.
Authorities have attempted to gauge public sentiment towards their governance in various administrative districts of Yerevan and have discovered that they might even face defeat. Consequently, they have halted the process of ousting Yerevan Mayor Hayk Marutyan and are now focusing on regaining control over the situation in other cities across Armenia.
They are concentrating on the provinces and smaller towns, aiming to execute a revolution there. Our sources also report that the government has acknowledged that 'getting rid' of Mayor Hayk Marutyan is becoming increasingly impossible, and they seem to be reconciling with the situation.
At present, the authorities believe that they must prepare for the regular elections of the Yerevan City Council, which are scheduled for September 2023. Marutyan, for his part, has expressed to those around him that he is the elected mayor and does not plan to step down.
