Russia as an Ally Meets Most Frequently with Armenia in International Platforms: Interview with Alen Simonyan for the 'Vместе' TV Project

The Speaker of the National Assembly, Alen Simonyan, who is on an official visit to the Russian Federation, gave an interview to the 'Vместе' TV project following his meeting with Valentina Matviyenko, the Chairwoman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia. Simonyan emphasized that this is his first official foreign visit as the Speaker of the National Assembly, and it is very important for him that it takes place in Russia, with which Armenia maintains allied and friendly relations.

“Just moments ago, my meeting with Valentina Matviyenko concluded. We could have continued our conversation for a long time, even though it wasn't our first meeting. Mrs. Matviyenko introduced me to her colleagues. It turned out that I am already familiar with many of them from my time as Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, and we have worked together on various platforms. We must do everything to ensure that our work continues for the benefit of Armenia and Russia,” said Simonyan.

Talking about the upcoming parliamentary work and main objectives, the Speaker of the National Assembly highlighted the importance of cooperation with different countries on international platforms. “My counterparts in the Federation Council noted that Russia, as an ally, meets most frequently with Armenia on international platforms. Our country ranks first among all countries engaged in political and diplomatic discussions at the same level. We are trying to coordinate our efforts with our Russian colleagues. I believe that in this regard, we are succeeding quite well,” added the Speaker.

Simonyan also spoke about the activities of the Armenian diaspora, emphasizing the significance of the Armenian community in Russia. “The Armenian community in Russia understands its power and authority very well and knows that its voice is heard in Armenia's domestic political life,” stressed the Speaker of the Armenian Parliament.
