Opposition Demands Meeting with Chief of NSS and Minister of Defense

The regular session of the second session of the 8th convocation National Assembly has begun. MP Artur Khachatryan from the "Armenia" faction announced that the two opposition groups had approached the Speaker of the National Assembly weeks ago, requesting a meeting with the Commander of the Border Guard, the Director of the NSS, the Minister of Defense, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and the Chairman of the State Revenue Committee to discuss the situation at the borders.

“We had a promise from the presidential office of the National Assembly that everything is being done to arrange this meeting at the level of the first persons. I request to inform us about the results of those efforts at least as of today,” said Khachatryan.

Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Ruben Rubinyan, who conducted the session, noted that when Alen Simonian returns from his trip, they could discuss the matter with him. “And in general, regarding this topic, I believe that the Prime Minister had a Q&A session with the government a few days after that, where you had the opportunity to ask questions on the specified topics,” explained Rubinyan.

Khachatryan stated that discussions during sessions are limited, and deeper conversations can be held in other formats, as was the case during the meeting with the Deputy Chief of the General Staff.

Arzvik Minasyan from the “Armenia” faction also mentioned that an agreement was reached with Alen Simonian and the leader of the CP faction, Hayk Konjoryan, that all efforts would be made and they took on the responsibility to organize the meeting. “Unfortunately, to this day, we do not have that meeting,” he said.

According to Minasyan, it is very important that many questions are answered through separate discussions. “This is what we want, not some public show-like actions, because what is happening these days in Syunik, in terms of statements from various actors in the region, is a direct threat to our security,” declared the opposition MP.
