Azerbaijan Should Not Have Illusions: Kamal Kharrazi on Azerbaijan's Actions
Azerbaijan should not have illusions about relying on external forces for security issues, stated Kamal Kharrazi, the head of Iran's Strategic Council on International Relations, as reported by IFP.
"Considering their motives, illegal objectives, and interests, this could lead to military competition in the region and cause harm. Furthermore, the greater the role of foreign forces, the deeper the dependency of the host country on them," Kharrazi clarified.
He warned that "the Zionist regime pursues ominous objectives that could ignite the flames of war in the region due to the strategic errors of Azerbaijan's current government, which would be disastrous." He noted that Iran had previously advised Azerbaijan's former president Heydar Aliyev to strengthen the country's armed forces through material-technical and educational cooperation with Iran to reclaim the "occupied territories."
"Unfortunately, he did not accept this, and as a result, Azerbaijan became more dependent on foreign powers and turned to external assistance," he said.
"Which country in the region has managed to increase its military power due to the presence of foreign forces in its territory, which no longer needs external powers?" the head of Iran's Strategic Council on International Relations questioned.
He emphasized that the Islamic Republic is an undisputed power in the region due to its sovereignty and independence from foreign forces. Kharrazi advised the neighboring northwestern country to rely on its own people instead of trying to "buy security" from foreign powers.
