Tigran Arzakantsyan: "What it Means is I Stand by What He Said"

Businessman Tigran Arzakantsyan has detailed the purpose of his invitation to the Investigative Committee. In response to Armlur.am's question regarding whether he was invited solely because of the case against his brother, he stated, "They invited me to ask where I know Vardan Aivazyan from, and where I know this person from. What a question! How do I know? It’s life, what can I say... We were members of parliament, we got to know each other, he was the head of a committee, we collaborated together..." He added that he attended the Investigative Committee as a witness.

"I was summoned because of something written by my cousin. He went without a lawyer and used incorrect terms. I won’t retract what my brother has written; what it says is I stand by what he said. There’s no problem because we haven’t committed any crimes; we’ve only done good things," he remarked.

When asked why his brother mentioned Arzakantsyan's name, he replied, "Because I was a stakeholder in that company, in that business." Regarding whether law enforcement has closed the case, he stated he was unaware.

The Armenian Investigative Committee reported that on September 6, 2019, a criminal case was initiated in the investigative department of the Kentron and Nork-Marash administrative districts regarding the abuse of power by the former director of a particular LLC. According to the information obtained during the investigation, the former director exploited his authority against the interests of the company, enabling the banking obligations of unrelated entities by pledging the financial resources belonging to the company.

According to the preliminary findings of the investigative body, he pledged an amount of approximately $6,251,200, which the company subsequently lost due to these entities failing to meet their banking obligations. Based on sufficient evidence, criminal charges were brought against the former director under part 2 of Article 214 of the Criminal Code of Armenia, and a restrictive measure of a written undertaking not to leave was imposed on him.

According to media reports, the former director of the LLC is the brother of former MP Tigran Arzakantsyan, against whom charges have been filed, and a measure has been imposed to ensure he does not leave the country.
