Protests in Rustavi in Support of Saakashvili

Members and supporters of the opposition "United National Movement" party have gathered near the 12th penitentiary institution in Rustavi, where former President Mikheil Saakashvili is being held. According to aliq.ge, a stage has already been set up in the area, and participants of the protest are preparing to deliver speeches.

Opposition MP Tako Charkviani stated that there are also emigrants present to support the former president. Representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs have been mobilized near the penitentiary.

Saakashvili has addressed the protesters, with opposition MP Khatia Dekanoidze reading a letter from the former president to his supporters. "Thank you, my brothers and sisters. I hear your voice in prison, it makes me fight; we are moving toward victory," Saakashvili said in his letter.

It is reported that Saakashvili was arrested on October 1 in Tbilisi. Following this, arrests began among those who had organized his illegal entry into the country and those who had sheltered him in the capital. Today, the owner of the Tbilisi apartment where Saakashvili had hidden was also detained.
