Europe Finds New Ways to Combat Reckless Drivers

European countries have begun to tackle reckless driving in innovative ways. In Denmark, 3D optical illusion devices have been installed at pedestrian crossings. Aarhus, Denmark's second-largest city, is showcasing this innovative approach on its roads. Using 3D modeling, the roads display three-dimensional crossing lines that appear to float in the air, clearly visible to careless drivers, according to Euronews.

The optical illusion has a strikingly realistic appearance. With this technological approach, the Danes are starting to combat traffic accidents in a new way, compelling drivers to stop their vehicles and allow pedestrians to cross. “We hope that car owners and cyclists will be more cautious towards people crossing the road. For this purpose, we created these zones, 3D crossings. They attract the attention of all road users while simultaneously encouraging pedestrians to cross at the proper place,” explained project leader Rikke Smed Winding.

The testing of the new zebras in Aarhus will continue until 2024. Danish authorities will analyze the project's impact and, if the results are positive, will extend this practice to other locations. A similar technology is already in use in Iceland, Australia, and Thailand.
