Deputy Chief of the General Staff Stepan Galstyan Arrested

The Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction, presided over by Judge Karen Farukhoyan, made a decision today, October 2, to arrest the Deputy Chief of the General Staff, Stepan Galstyan. This is reported by News.am.

Galstyan has been arrested in connection with criminal cases involving abuses and particularly large-scale embezzlements in the supply of ammunition for the needs of the Armenian Armed Forces. He is accused of abuse of official position resulting in severe material consequences and committing official forgery.

It is noteworthy that just a few days ago, the National Security Service (NSS) conducted searches in the apartments of former Minister of Defense Davit Tonoyan, Deputy Chief of the General Staff Stepan Galstyan, and former head of military aviation Avetik Muradyan. Searches were even carried out in Tonoyan’s mother’s apartment. It is unclear what investigators expected to find in those apartments months after the case was initiated by the NSS. There were only rumors in the media that law enforcement agencies were searching for documents and money.

By the court's decision, Davit Tonoyan and arms supplier Davit Galstyan (Patron Davit) have also been arrested for two months.
