The Flag of Artsakh Has Again Been Lowered from the Amaras Monastery: Russian Officer Firmly Stated No More Flags

Today, a high-ranking Russian officer visited the village, asked politely, and then firmly stated that we should remove the flag of the Republic of Artsakh from the Amaras Monastery. We have done just that. Currently, there is no flag on the monastery—neither of Artsakh nor the Republic of Armenia, said Lernik Aleksanyan, the mayor of the Matian community in Artsakh, in a conversation with Aysor.am.

According to him, Russian peacekeepers had previously informed that the residents of Matian could hoist the Armenian state flag at the monastery, but today they insisted that there is already a cross on the monastery, which is sufficient.

“There probably won't be a flag anymore. The Russian officer said we should not raise one else they would impose combat duty in the area to prevent us. We have understood them,” our interlocutor said.

When asked if Azerbaijanis had attempted to advance towards the Amaras Monastery again, as they did a few days ago, Lernik Aleksanyan replied negatively.

It is noteworthy that the flag of Artsakh was hoisted on the monastery after the end of the 44-day war. It was removed recently, but was re-erected yesterday, on September 24.
