Ararat Mirzoyan and Sergey Lavrov Held a Telephone Conversation
On October 1, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan had a telephone conversation with Sergey Lavrov, the Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation. Mirzoyan congratulated Lavrov on the occasion of the State Duma elections. The interlocutors discussed in detail issues related to Armenian-Russian relations, as well as international and regional agendas. The importance of regular communications at high and supreme levels was emphasized.
Mirzoyan and Lavrov reviewed the results of the September 23 meeting in New York, which involved Mirzoyan and the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, as well as the meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan on September 24, mediated by the co-chairs. Minister Mirzoyan reaffirmed Armenia's readiness to resume the full process of peaceful resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict under the mandate of the OSCE Minsk Group based on the well-known principles and elements.
The foreign ministers highlighted the importance of implementing the agreements reached through the statements of November 9, 2020, and January 11, 2021. In the context of addressing humanitarian issues, Mirzoyan emphasized the necessity of repatriating Armenian prisoners of war and civilian hostages held in Azerbaijan.
In the context of coordinating steps in foreign policy, the parties discussed cooperation within the frameworks of the UN, OSCE, CIS, and CSTO, particularly taking into account Armenia's current presidency in the CSTO.
