116 People Killed in Ecuador Prison Riot, 80 Injured

As a result of riots at a prison in Guayaquil, Ecuador, 116 people have been killed and 80 more injured. At least 5 individuals were beheaded, according to reports from Associated Press.

During the clashes, inmates used weapons, knives, and explosives. Approximately 400 police officers were deployed to contain the situation.

The unrest began on September 28 when inmates from one wing of the prison stormed another wing and attacked the inmates there. Official sources from Ecuador indicate that the riots stemmed from a dispute between the gangs Los Lobos and Los Choneros, both of which are connected to international drug trafficking.
