Mirzoyan Accepts Iranian Ambassador to Armenia: Discussion Highlights
On September 30, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan received the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Armenia, Abbas Badakhshan Zohouri, as reported by the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The two parties expressed satisfaction with the effective cooperation established between Armenia and Iran at bilateral and multilateral platforms and emphasized that the new governments formed in both countries will provide additional important signals to Armenian-Iranian relations.
Minister Mirzoyan and the Iranian ambassador highlighted the importance of expanding cooperation in the trade and economic sector through the implementation of specific agreements, which will enable trade turnover to reach up to $1 billion.
Regarding Armenian-Iranian energy cooperation, they discussed the prospects for increasing the volume of the gas-for-electricity exchange program.
Ararat Mirzoyan and Abbas Badakhshan Zohouri also addressed issues of regional security and stability. The Armenian Foreign Minister emphasized that Azerbaijan’s provocative actions and claims against Armenia's sovereign territory undermine efforts towards peace and development in the region. The Armenian side stated that it highly appreciates Iran's position on Armenia's territorial integrity.
The situation in the Goris-Kapan road section was also discussed. Ararat Mirzoyan informed about the progress of the construction of an alternative road as well as the work on the North-South highway.
