Azerbaijanis Constructing Gas Station Near Goris-Kapan Checkpoint: Deputy Mayor

The Azerbaijanis, who have established a police checkpoint on the Goris-Kapan road, have also started construction in the adjacent area. The work is visibly apparent to travelers using the road. According to preliminary information, the occupying Azerbaijanis are building a gas station.

In an interview with Factinfo, Goris Deputy Mayor Karen Kocharyan mentioned, "I cannot specifically say what purpose they are pursuing, but it is evident that they are undertaking significant construction. They are renovating existing structures, constructing large tents, and similar buildings." In the adjacent area where Armenian lands and structures are located, Azerbaijanis have decided to breathe new life into the space.

The Deputy Mayor revealed that he lost a plot of land months ago, and now he is witnessing how the enemy is revitalizing the gas station built by his son. "They are building the gas station on the plot of land that belonged to me. It is my son's construction site, where a gas station had existed before; now they are enlarging and renovating it—what for, for whom, I do not know. It is our ancestral land for 30 years; it has fallen into their GPS. It is located right next to the road," he stated.

At the same time, citizens traveling on the Goris-Kapan road are waiting for two hours. The National Security Service halts vehicles passing through the Vorotani area, forming a convoy, after which vehicles move forward escorted by Russian border guards. "The NSS has organized a service. They stop Armenian vehicles, form a convoy, and escort them for the safety of our people. They travel every two hours; when a convoy is formed, vehicles move from one point to another under the escort of Russian border guards. There are not alarm reports, but complaints—people arrive, stop, and wait for two hours until they are escorted. Of course, there will be grievances," he noted.

The Goris Deputy Mayor added that Iranian trucks continue to accumulate on the road, creating automatic traffic jams when several vehicles gather. It is recalled that after establishing a police checkpoint in the Vorotani area, Azerbaijanis stop drivers of trucks coming from Iran, checking them and charging fees.
