Permanent Representative of Artsakh Presents Numbers on Casualties, Missing, and Captured Artsakh Residents in War
In the 44-day war, 742 soldiers from Artsakh were killed, 45 servicemen are considered missing, and 80 civilians were killed, of whom 42 died due to targeted strikes, while 38 are currently captives. This information was shared by the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Artsakh in Armenia, Sergey Ghazaryan, during a discussion in parliament.
According to him, as a result of the war, around 42,000 displaced residents of Artsakh have been registered, of which 38,154 lost their homes and properties. Among the displaced, 15,000 are located in Stepanakert, and 5,000 are in the regions of Artsakh, while 1,960 individuals are living in hotels.
“We already have 3,000 rental agreements in place to provide housing for them. It is planned to build 300 apartments in Stepanakert by the end of the year to accommodate the displaced,” stated Sergey Ghazaryan.
He also reported that as a result of the war, 192 settlements of the Republic of Artsakh have come under enemy control, including 185 villages and 7 towns.
Sergey Ghazaryan emphasized that numerous infrastructures in Artsakh suffered significant damage as a consequence of the war. Specifically, out of 36 hydroelectric power plants in the energy system, only 6 remain operational.
There are severe issues related to telecommunications, with preliminary damage estimates exceeding 42 million. A total of 1,226 economic entities operating in areas currently occupied by Azerbaijan have been affected. Additionally, 75% of the agricultural land has fallen into enemy hands, and water lines and sources have also been damaged.
According to Sergey Ghazaryan, the Armenian cultural heritage located in areas under Azerbaijani control is now in serious jeopardy, with more than 2,000 monuments at risk, including 13 monasteries, 122 churches, 52 fortresses, and 523 khachkars.
