Ministry of Defense and General Staff May Merge, Says 'Zhoghovurd'

'Zhoghovurd' newspaper reports that discussions are currently underway within the leadership of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia regarding the necessity to revert to the old management structure, specifically merging the General Staff of the Armed Forces and the Ministry of Defense.

According to sources, the current head of the General Staff, Artak Davtyan, will not remain idle as a result of this merger; he is expected to be appointed as the First Deputy Minister of Defense of Armenia. Furthermore, reports indicate that Arshak Karapetyan has decided to close several departments against the backdrop of these changes.

'Zhoghovurd' has learned that one of these departments is the Inspection Department of the Ministry of Defense. There have been opinions within the Ministry that the Military Police and investigative bodies are sufficient for carrying out inspections in military establishments, thus rendering this department unnecessary in its functions.
