Fire at Arevik National Park Successfully Extinguished
Rescue teams have successfully extinguished the fire that broke out in the territory of Arevik National Park in Syunik, which started approximately two weeks ago. This information was provided by the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Armenia.
The fire ignited on September 15 at 13:34. For several days, staff from the national park and military personnel participated in the firefighting efforts.
Arevik National Park is located in the Meghri region of Syunik. It has been designated as a specially protected area since 2010. The park encompasses nearly the entire system of landscape zones, ranging from low and middle mountainous semi-deserts to high mountain meadows and subalpine landscapes near the upper reaches of the Meghri River.
Spanning approximately 30,353.8 hectares, the park is home to rare and endangered species documented in the Red Book of Armenia. Remarkably, in the last 60 years, a striped hyena, considered an extinct species, was discovered in the Arevik National Park for the first time.
