The Number of Casualties in the 44-Day War is 3781: The Whereabouts of 231 Soldiers Remain Unknown
The investigation into the aggressive war unleashed by the military-political leadership of the Republic of Azerbaijan against the Republic of Artsakh continues in the Special Investigation Department of the Military Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia. The investigation examines the use of mercenaries recruited beforehand, the application of prohibited methods and means of warfare, the failure to differentiate between military personnel and civilian individuals, and the systematic, premeditated targeting of the civilian population of Artsakh’s peaceful communities, particularly subjecting the civilian population in the deep rear and civilian facilities to indiscriminate attacks and shelling—actions deemed serious violations of international humanitarian law.
The Investigative Committee of Armenia reports that, within the framework of the criminal case, it has been established that the total number of soldiers and civilians killed as a result of the aggressive war unleashed by Azerbaijan in the Republic of Artsakh and the Republic of Armenia amounts to 3781 individuals. As of September 27, 2021, the whereabouts of 231 soldiers and 22 civilians remain unknown.
To date, the Republic of Azerbaijan has handed over a total of 108 soldiers and civilians who had been captured to the Republic of Armenia.
