Leipzig University Will Not Hire Merkel
Leipzig University, from which Angela Merkel graduated, does not plan to hire her as a researcher after she steps down from the position of Chancellor of Germany.
“Ms. Merkel is an alumnus of Leipzig University, has been and remains a recognized political figure, and she worked at Leipzig University as a researcher until 1990. She has not continued her academic career since 1990, so from a scientific perspective, Leipzig University is currently not considering her for employment due to its limited research capacity,” stated the educational institution in a written response.
Merkel studied at the Faculty of Physics at Leipzig University from 1973 to 1978. Her thesis received the highest marks. In 1974, during one of the student meetings, she met her first husband, Ulrich Merkel. The couple married in 1977. Merkel defended her doctoral thesis in 1986 at the Central Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the GDR. In 2008, she was awarded the title of Honorary Doctor of Leipzig University.
On September 26, elections for the Bundestag of the Federal Republic of Germany were held. Chancellor Angela Merkel will have to cede her position to the future head of the German government after the first meeting of the new parliament.
