Azerbaijan Plans to Complete Works on 'Zangezur Corridor' Within Two Years, Says Aliyev

In a statement made during an interview with the Turkish Anadolu agency, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev announced that Azerbaijan intends to complete the construction works for the 'Zangezur Corridor' in its territory within two years, while the works in Armenia could take up to one and a half years.

“We have launched extensive efforts in Azerbaijan towards the establishment of the Zangezur Corridor. A railway and a highway are being constructed in Zangilan, and airports are also being built. I believe that we will finish the work in our territory within two years, as the scope of work here is very large. The length of the railway and road in Armenia is 40 kilometers. This could take 1 to 1.5 years,” said Aliyev.

According to him, the opening of the 'Zangezur Corridor' is a prerequisite for starting the process of normalizing relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia. “Of course, this is a requirement. Because it is stated in the November 10 declaration. Armenia has taken on this obligation. If it does not fulfill this obligation, then what kind of normalization can we talk about?” Aliyev added.
