New World Record in Elections
The head of the Chechen Republic, Ramzan Kadyrov, has set a world record in the regional leader elections by collecting 99.7 percent of the votes. This was reported by the International Agency for Record Registration, "Interrecord." According to the agency, the record-holder achieved the highest percentage of votes in the elections. Voter turnout in the Chechen Republic was 94.42 percent.
Kadyrov was supported by 711,973 residents of the republic, while other candidates for the position, Khalid Nakayev and Isa Hajimuradov, received 0.12 percent and 0.15 percent of the votes, respectively.
On September 25, it was reported that Ramzan Kadyrov laughed during a video conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin and leaders of the parties that won the State Duma elections, while revealing the results of the КПРФ and ЛДПР in the republic.
Kadyrov is the chief governor of Russia's largest region. He has been leading Chechnya since 2007 (serving as President of the Republic until April 5, 2011). At the time of his first appointment, he was 30 years old.
