Murder in Yerevan: Man Received Multiple Stab Wounds

A murder occurred today in Yerevan. Around 00:50, the police received a call from the Mashtots police station to the Emergency Situations Ministry's Rescue Service 9-1-1 crisis management center, requesting the assistance of firefighters to open the door of an apartment at 6 Sisakyan Street.

According to photojournalist Gagik Shamshyan, rescuers and police rang the doorbell for a long time to get the door opened, as officers had received operational information that someone was inside. Seeing that the door was not opening, the rescuers, in the presence of public witnesses, forced the door open and discovered a man's body on the living room floor.

Several citizens gathered at the scene, who declined to speak on camera, mentioned: “While the police and investigators were examining the body in the living room under the supervision of a forensic expert, it was good that the police were well-oriented and found the alleged suspect in another room of the apartment.”

According to the photojournalist's information, the suspect is 55-year-old Yuri M., a citizen of both Armenia and Israel, who was taken into custody by the Mashtots police. It was established that the victim was 56-year-old Vahing E., a resident of the mentioned apartment.

According to the preliminary findings of the forensic expert, the victim had multiple injuries from sharp cutting-piercing objects on his body. A criminal case has been initiated regarding the incident.

Police and investigators discovered blood-like traces and several bloody knives at the scene, while one kitchen knife was found on the victim's neck.

The photojournalist reports that when police were taking the suspect into custody, he appeared to be intoxicated, as he was shouting obscenities at the officers, while nearby witnesses stated: “If the police were to give him a few punches, they would probably say 'Oh, look, they beat a person.' You would need at least iron nerves to not respond to those insults; if we were there, we might have become murderers over his obscenities. Thankfully, those officers did not stoop to his level. But considering that this foul-mouthed person had returned from Israel two days ago, if he were to show such behavior towards law enforcement there, we can only imagine what they would do; they would throw him down so hard that his mind wouldn’t come back.”

According to G. Shamshyan's information, Yuri M. has been arrested within the framework of the criminal case that has been initiated.
