North Korea Ready to End War, But Presents Conditions
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un's sister, Kim Yo-jong, has announced that they are willing to resume negotiations with the South if the latter ends its 'hostile policies.' As reported by BBC News, the second most influential figure in the DPRK responded to the South's renewed calls to officially end the Korean War.
The conflict, which resulted in the peninsula being divided, ended in 1953 with an armistice but without a peace treaty. Since that day, the two countries have been in a state of technical conflict and maintain closed borders.
This week, South Korean President Moon Jae-in urged both Koreas and their allies—the U.S., which supports the South, and China, North Korea's largest economic partner—to bring an end to the ongoing hostilities and establish peace on the peninsula.
