Takhouhi Tovmasyan Explains Why They Boycotted and Left the National Assembly Hall
We have no other agenda than border security issues. This was stated by Takhouhi Tovmasyan, a member of the "Honorary Duty" faction, in an interview with NEWS.am while commenting on their faction's boycott of the extraordinary session of the National Assembly and their departure from the hall.
"The reason for our boycott was that during the previous session, two opposition factions demanded that the head of the National Security Service, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and several other officials who are authorized and responsible for addressing issues related to Armenia's border and security appear in parliament and provide explanations. The government promised to meet these demands and hold a discussion. Until now, this discussion has not been organized, therefore we have no other agenda than border security issues. We do not intend to discuss any matters that arise from any political expediency or enlargement; this is not a priority for us," she said.
Takhouhi Tovmasyan added that with the draft law on amendments and additions to the Law on the Administrative-Territorial Division of the Republic of Armenia, the government is trying to get rid of the heads of communities who did not serve the authorities during the elections and had the audacity to stand by the opposition or any other political force.
It should be noted that at the initiative of the government, an extraordinary session was held today in the National Assembly, with the agenda including the draft law on amendments and additions to the Law on the Administrative-Territorial Division of the Republic of Armenia, which the parliament is expected to adopt in two readings. The two opposition factions boycotted the session and left the hall.
