Saakashvili Announces Intent to Return to Homeland

The former President of Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili, has announced that he will fulfill his promise to return to his homeland ahead of the local self-government elections in October. He urges his supporters to demonstrate greater activity in pursuit of a change of power.

Saakashvili had previously declared his intention to return to the country. He is currently under domestic surveillance in Georgia and is facing several criminal charges. Representatives of the Georgian authorities have repeatedly stated that Saakashvili will be arrested immediately upon crossing the border.
