One Billion Dollars, 60 Km of Road, Tunnels, and Bridges: The Sisian-Kajaran Section Will Be Built

In today’s governmental session, a draft decision regarding the approval of the investment program for the construction of the Sisian-Kajaran section within the framework of the North-South Road Corridor investment program was discussed. The Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure, Vache Terteryan, stated that the project is unique for the development of our country.

“We will undoubtedly work more intensively. We ask for the government’s positive stance,” he said. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan noted that this marks the beginning of the construction process for the Sisian-Kajaran section of the North-South highway.

“We will announce an international competition, and we hope that by the end of 2022, the preliminary phase of construction will already commence,” he said. According to Deputy Prime Minister Suren Papikyan, the most complicated part is the Kajaran tunnel segment, which needs to be addressed separately.

The Prime Minister expressed hope that he would see a new quality and justification of the decisions made. “This is a very serious challenge, and we must carry out the task honorably. This will bring a new quality to our economy, strengthen our economic ties with Iran, and also generate some interest in projects connecting the Persian Gulf to the Black Sea. If we consider this issue in a broader context, it has entirely different significance for the opening of all regional economic communications,” Pashinyan said.
