Man Claims Ex-Mother-in-Law's Apartment as Reason for Divorce, Threatens to Burn It
The Lori regional investigative department of the RA Investigative Committee has revealed circumstances surrounding a 38-year-old resident of Vanadzor attempting to intentionally destroy property, causing severe mental anguish and willfully failing to comply with a decision for urgent intervention.
According to the investigation, the 38-year-old man, considering the apartment of his ex-wife's mother on Tigran Mets Boulevard in Vanadzor as the reason for their divorce, on April 9, 2021, around 6:30 PM, threatened during a phone conversation with his ex-wife to destroy and damage the aforementioned apartment and its belongings by means of arson.
Later that same day, approximately at 8:00 PM, with the intent to intentionally destroy and damage someone else's property, he went to that apartment and poured gasoline on the door, ignited it with a lighter, and immediately fled the scene. However, his crime was not completed due to circumstances beyond his control, as the fire was noticed by neighbors and extinguished.
It was also revealed that on various days in April, the man repeatedly called his ex-wife, insulted her and her parents, and threatened to kill them. Additionally, as a person who had committed domestic violence, he ignored the restrictions imposed on him by law enforcement, which prohibited him from approaching his ex-wife within 50 meters for 20 days.
On April 16, 2021, around 11:35 AM, he went to his ex-wife's residence with the intention of talking, encountered her, and demanded to reunite with her.
Based on the gathered sufficient evidence, charges have been brought against the 38-year-old man under Article 34-185, Part 3, Point 1, Article 119, Part 1, and Article 353.1, Part 1 of the RA Criminal Code. He has been placed in custody as a measure of restraint.
The preliminary investigation has been completed, and the criminal case has been submitted to the prosecutor for the approval of the indictment and referral to court.
Notice: The suspect or accused in the alleged crime is considered innocent until proven guilty in accordance with the procedure established by the Criminal Procedure Code of the RA by a legally binding court decision.
