LHK to Participate in Vanadzor Municipal Elections: 'Zhoghank'

'Zhoghank' newspaper reports that recently the board of the 'Enlightened Armenia' party announced it would not participate in the local self-government elections held in Gyumri. According to information from 'Zhoghank', the party was initially scheduled to take part in the elections in Gyumri and had even decided on a candidate.

The LHK list in Gyumri was supposed to be headed by former MP Sarik Minasian. This information was confirmed in a conversation with LHK Governance Council member David Khajakyan, who elaborated: 'The decision not to enter the electoral battle in Gyumri is due to the fact that the authorities will ensure a strong presence in that community using their available resources, thereby depriving other forces of the possibility to form an alternative.'

Unlike Gyumri, LHK members cannot passively overlook the elections in Vanadzor. Firstly, they have a considerable number of supporters there, and secondly, it is a matter of honor. Washing their hands of their birthplace, Vanadzor, and stepping out of the political game would indeed indicate being sidelined. If the party decides to participate in the Vanadzor elections, it will likely propose the candidacy of former MP Hrant Ayvazyan here as well.
