The Ombudsman's Response to the National Assembly Speaker's 'Fabricated Scene' Statement
The spokesperson for the National Assembly Speaker has commented that Speaker Alen Simonyan's remark was related to the speech of Anna Mkrtchyan, a member of the "Honorary Group" faction, and not the facts presented in the Ombudsman's report, said Nune Hovsepyan, the press secretary of the Human Rights Defender, in an interview with Aysor.am.
"We have no other comment," Hovsepyan added.
It is noteworthy that in response to MP Anna Mkrtchyan's mention of torture of prisoners of war and civilians held as hostages in Azerbaijan, there was an initial reaction today from Marina Ghazaryan, a parliamentarian from the ruling Civil Contract party, who stated that parents are complaining about the publication of such details. This was followed by the statement from the National Assembly Speaker Alen Simonyan, who said, "I honestly do not understand, for what purpose it was necessary to mention fabricated scenes in the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia."
