The 'Armenia' Alliance Will Not Participate in the Upcoming Local Elections

According to 'Haykakan Zhamanak', the 'Armenia' alliance led by Robert Kocharian will not participate in the upcoming local elections with its own candidates; instead, there will be candidates whom they will support publicly, stated alliance member Gegham Nazaryan yesterday.

This behavior is perceived differently, suggesting that within the alliance, it is believed that the right approach is not to run under the name 'Armenia' to avoid alienating voters, who, especially in local elections, are guided by familiarity with candidates. The 'Armenia' alliance is associated with Robert Kocharian, the number one enemy of the authorities, and there are concerns that a counter-campaign against them would be initiated again.

As a result, in Goris, Arush Arushan will run with the coalition of 'Reviving Armenia' and 'National Agenda' parties, while in Gyumri, Karapet Poghosyan will represent the 'Tasibov Gyumri' party. Nazaryan mentioned in our conversation that indeed there will be no nominations from their alliance; they will publicly support certain candidates. However, he disagreed that the issue is with the second President of the Republic of Armenia. He stated that during consultations held within the territorial structures, members had suggested not to politicize the local elections, where 'tribal' connections come into play.
