Armenian Authorities Not Addressing Prisoner Issues, Not Assisting Ombudsman: MP
Armenian authorities are not addressing the issue of prisoners. They are irritated by the fact that the Armenian ombudsman has presented a comprehensive picture of the torture that Armenian citizens are subjected to in Baku’s prisons. This was stated by opposition MP Anna Mkrtchyan during a press conference on September 14 in the National Assembly, responding to the announcement made by the Speaker of the Parliament, Alen Simonyan.
According to the parliament speaker, the authorities not only failed to assist the ombudsman in preparing this report, but they also did not contribute to its coverage, and have become annoyed because Armenian society is aware of it.
“And yes, it must be stated from the podium of the parliament so that the whole world hears, that Armenian citizens, Armenian prisoners are being subjected to torture in Baku’s prisons, and this cannot in any way be considered a 'positive signal' from Azerbaijan or Turkey, as previously stated by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan,” said Anna Mkrtchyan.
