Alex Eskandaryan Becomes the First Armenian NASCAR Driver

The young man wearing a helmet featuring the Armenian tricolor is Alex Eskandaryan. He has made history by becoming the first Armenian auto racer in NASCAR (National Association of Stock Car Auto Racing).

Born in Las Vegas, Eskandaryan told Armenian Weekly that he became interested in race cars at the age of nine, but he never imagined that this passion would turn into a full-fledged career. However, after participating in amateur races in Las Vegas this summer, sponsors took notice of him and helped the young driver compete in a professional NASCAR race. Thus, 21-year-old Eskandaryan has entered the history books as the first Armenian to participate in such competitions.

NASCAR is an organization that hosts sporting races similar to Formula 1, with competing organizations. NASCAR has been in existence in the U.S. since 1947, and participants in the races earn significant amounts of money. For instance, NASCAR Sprint Cup Series winner Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s annual income is $26 million.

Our Alex is just entering the big game, but he has already achieved success. This month he will have two races on September 11 and 23. "My only goal is to win. I don't know what will happen six months from now or a year from now. I have high hopes," he says.
