Our Population is Armenian, Tomorrow or the Day After They Will Start Checking Us: Goris Deputy Mayor on Azerbaijani Police Post Installation

“If there is no Azerbaijani population within an 80 km radius, then why is it being installed?” said Goris Deputy Mayor Karo Kocharyan in an interview with Tert.am, addressing the installation of an Azerbaijani police post at the Qarahunj-Vorotan section of the Goris-Kapan interstate road.

“Our population is Armenian, tomorrow or the day after they will start checking us,” he said, noting that they were not warned by anyone about the establishment of such an Azerbaijani police post.

“They say, ‘This is our territory,’” he emphasized, clarifying that the police post is located near the Russian checkpoint at the Vorotan border of the Kapan-Goris road.

Kocharyan also stated that they have not received any clarifications from the Armenian authorities and do not know what agreements exist with the Azerbaijani side. “The concern is very high; it’s not just a police post, but rather a road police check point, which says a lot, and the consequences can be different,” he said.
