The Authorities Are Trying to Get Rid of Me, Says Geghamasar Mayor
The Geghamasar consolidated community will soon join Vardenis, and extraordinary elections for the mayor will be held. This was stated by Geghamasar Mayor Hakob Avetyan in an interview with NEWS.am.
“Tensions arose regarding me after the extraordinary parliamentary elections because our community is considered an opposition community, and I was the head of the 'Hayastan' alliance's headquarters during the elections. The authorities are acting this way to easily win in Vardenis and get rid of me because they consider me a competitor and a hindrance,” he noted.
The Geghamasar consolidated community was formed in 2017 and includes 18 villages. According to Avetyan, if the community merges with Vardenis, it will not yield any positive results.
“The villages of the Geghamasar community are balanced with each other. The unification program was such that the most important issues of the villages were separated and kept in focus. Now, if it joins the Vardenis community, which has very large villages, that balance will not be maintained, and the small villages of Geghamasar will simply be ignored. The consequences of this consolidation will become evident a year later. I don’t understand how they can prioritize personal issues over community issues,” emphasized Hakob Avetyan.
Vardenis will hold elections on December 5. Avetyan mentioned that he cannot say at the moment whether he will run for office or not, but he continues to support the 'Hayastan' alliance. “I share the ideas of the 'Hayastan' alliance and I support its programs,” added Avetyan.
