Serzh Sargsyan vs. Khachatur Sukiasyan: Court Accepts Claims

The Court of General Jurisdiction of Yerevan has accepted the lawsuit of the third President of the Republic of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan, against Khachatur Sukiasyan, a member of the 'Civil Contract' faction in the National Assembly.

Notably, Sargsyan has not only sued the ruling party member but also the parliamentary staff, demanding a public retraction of the allegedly defamatory statements and compensation for damages caused to his honor and dignity.

The court documents do not specify the amount of compensation Sargsyan is seeking. The case has been assigned to Judge Sergey Sahakyan at the Court of General Jurisdiction's Kanaker branch. The date for the start of the proceedings has yet to be set.

It is worth recalling that during a speech at the National Assembly session on August 25, Khachatur Sukiasyan stated that Sargsyan has squandered over 100 million dollars in casinos, including those in Baden-Baden. He asserted that all this had occurred at the expense of the military and other state expenditures, and constitutes large-scale corruption.

On September 6, prior to submitting the lawsuit to the court, Sargsyan's lawyer, Amram Makinyan, informed reporters gathered in front of the court that they would be demanding 1 million drams in damages, which would be donated to the Soldiers' Insurance Fund.
